Nostalgia
This custom mosaic is an abstraction of Kalamalka Lake in British Columbia. The lake ranges from cyan to indigo, in different parts at the same time, depending on the time of year, and has been called the "lake of a thousand colors". Apposite Architecture designed this mosaic to memorialize the family’s memories of time spent among family and friends at this special place - laughing, playing games, swimming, sailing, and ice skating. The blue-green hues in the mosaic recall the colors of the lake and a single metallic tile highlights the particular place on the lake that the extended family still calls home.
The Starburst
This tile fireplace design, inspired by and proudly displaying the owner’s favorite clock, was installed by experienced craftsmen, without spacers, to accommodate the unique, handmade tiles.
The ceramic tiles are handmade locally by Clayhaus Modern Tile. This design features 6” x 12” rectangular tiles and 6”x6” tiles in the Wax Wane design. We chose the Metallic Glaze in 010 to contrast the brass clock and provide subtle reflectivity. Color variation is common in handmade tile and adds a dynamic effect to the fireplace.
